The Fertility Cleanse Kit, another great product! Going through this 30 day cleanse is a wonderful idea for women having trouble getting pregnant.
When you’re trying to have a baby, you want to be in the best health possible. Performing a fertility cleanse is a great way to prepare your body for conception. The Fertility Cleanse Kit works to even out hormonal imbalances, release toxins and support your reproductive system.
The all-natural herbs, vitamins and minerals in the Fertility Cleanse Kit work to remove impurities from the uterus and increase circulation to the reproductive system. And because it’s a kit, there’s no running around town or the Internet trying to gather all the different teas and extracts – everything you need is in one box.
A huge benefit of the Fertility Cleanse is that it supports your liver through the use of herbs so it’s better able to process toxins and purify your system. Also, you may not realize it but the uterus isn’t always able to empty its entire contents during every cycle. By completely clearing the old lining, this cleanse helps you provide the best possible environment for a new embryo.
For couples struggling to conceive, a cleanse is a great option for encouraging fertility and improving your chances of getting pregnant. The Fertility Cleanse Kit is specifically formulated to promote uterine wellness and a healthy reproductive system, and it’s a lot less expensive than a trip to the fertility doctor.

Just wanted to take a moment to introduce you to one of my favorite products, the Moon Cup. The focus of my practice is Women’s Health and I am in favor of anything that promotes menstrual health. The Moon Cup does just that!
Conventional tampons and pads contain harmful chemicals and toxins that pollute your body. Luckily there are an increasing number of green products on the market that are much safer for you and the environment.
One such product is the Moon Cup. Made of soft, non-latex, medical grade silicone, the Moon Cup Menstrual Cup is a healthy, safe and reusable alternative to traditional pads and tampons. Rather than working like a sponge, the Moon Cup collects your flow in an internal receptacle so that you can simply empty, rinse and reinsert.
Because the Moon Cup catches your flow instead of absorbing it, your vaginal tissues don’t get as dried out as they do with regular tampons. It’s more comfortable than a traditional tampon, and you just simply rinse it out when it gets full. The best part is that the Moon Cup can last up to ten years, which will save you hundreds of dollars in disposable products!
As always, please call or email me should you have any questions.

Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome is a health crisis affecting millions of women in the United States alone. The hormone changes that lead to PCOS can cause irregular periods, excess weight, poor skin and decrease your chances for fertility. However, PCOS can be managed and you can get back to feeling healthy!
There are several different modalities that can help manage hormone imbalances, but I believe the most powerful tool you have is the food you eat. By simply changing your diet, you can alter your internal biochemistry and manage your PCOS naturally. I highly recommend the the eBook, “The Natural Diet Solution for PCOS and Infertility” for anyone dealing with PCOS (whether you are trying to get pregnant or not).
The Natural Diet Solution for PCOS and Infertility, written by Dr. Nancy Dunne and Bill Slater, provides an incredible holistic diet system specifically for sufferers of PCOS. This diet plan is clinically proven to significantly improve issues with infertility, hair loss, weight gain, and many other symptoms and side effects associated with PCOS.
By following this diet plan you can:
Increase energy
Relieve depression
Regulate your cycle
Improve skin condition
Enhance fertility
You can’t change the fact that you inherited genes with the tendency to develop ovarian cysts, but you can modify how they behave. The Natural Diet Solution for PCOS and Infertility teaches you how to understand your internal biochemistry and make positive changes to minimize the effects of PCOS.
More than simply treating the symptoms, the diet plan in The Natural Diet Solution for PCOS and Infertility addresses the root cause. Finally! You can stop reacting to the side effects of your condition and start attacking PCOS at its source.
In addition to the foods you eat, acupuncture is extremely valuable in re-balancing hormones. Acupuncture treatments can significantly improve your periods by regulating cycles and ovulation. Women begin to feel less ruled by hormones, lose weight, see improvements in skin, hair and nails, feel less moody and feel less pain during menstruation.
If you have any questions about PCOS and how acupuncture can help you, please call me at

We are seeing more and more research studies proving the efficacy of acupuncture as a means of improving rates of conception. However, neither patients nor the Western Medical Community seem to know how acupuncture actually helps. By working on a patients core diagnosis Acupuncturists and Chinese Herbalists can use Traditional Chinese Medicine techniques to:
1. Improve ovarian response — better egg production
2. Increase ovarian and uterine blood flow — better ovarian response
3. Help prepare the uterine lining — increased implantation rates
4. Improve sperm count, motility, and morphology
5. Lessen the side effects of hormone treatments
6. Regulate hormones of the hypothalamus, pituitary, and gonads
7. Decrease reproductive immunologic reactions
8. Decrease uterine contractility at implantation
9. Resolve stress to promote relaxation
10. Reduce the incidence of miscarriage
It is important to understand that the overall approach in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is radically different than that of Western Medicine. With great detail, Acupuncturists and Chinese Herbalists evaluate each patients overall health including such things as: sleep patterns, digestive health, emotional tendencies, menstrual cycles, energy levels and much more. After taking the information gathered in the initial intake along with diagnostic clues found by taking the pulse and evaluating the tongue, a core diagnosis is made. It is on this diagnosis that treatment protocols and point prescriptions (which acupuncture points are needled) are based. Traditional Chinese Medicine is a very individual practice and focuses on each patients specific diagnosis. The problems leading to a core diagnosis cause dysfunction in meridians and organ systems which in turn lead to the types of issues in the above list.
It is this holistic approach which first attracted me to acupuncture and continues to help the couples in my practice conceive.

Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) can be a painful and chronic disorder that is often difficult to diagnose. Many patients have had irregular bowel movements or abdominal pain for years, but primary care physicians and even extensive testing show no evidence of a problem. Some people even think their digestive upset is normal or just something they have to put up with. I am here to assure you that chronic abdominal pain and irregular bowel movements are definitely not normal and can be alleviated.
The secret to digestive health is the food we eat….well after a closer look, maybe it’s the foods we don’t eat. Over the years of treating patients with digestive health problems, I have found that the vast majority have food allergies. Left untreated, food allergies wreak havoc on the lining of the intestines and eventually lead to symptoms like those associated with IBS, abdominal pain, chronic diarrhea, constipation or irregular bowel movements.
Let me say a quick word about the term allergy. One does not have to have an actual allergy to a food for it to cause digestive problems. Often patients have an intolerance to a certain food, which means it irritates the intestines and causes pain or disruption in bowel movements. Whether allergy or intolerance, if a food is aggravating a condition, it should be avoided.
I won’t say it’s quick or easy, but there is a way back to digestive health. It is though changes in the diet. These are often radical changes and involve completely eliminating foods that are irritating the intestines. For those experiencing IBS or related symptoms I highly recommend following an elimination diet to find out if the body does have any food sensitivities. In my practice, I guide patients through an elimination diet and most often start by recommending they completely rid the diet of wheat, dairy and soy. It sounds like a lot of work and to be honest, it is. But, if you are sick of feeling like you have no control over your health and you are sick of feeling sick, it’s well worth it!
Changing the diet so radically is a huge undertaking and I encourage you to seek help from a professional. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me for a health consultation. I am always willing to answer your questions via email or over the phone.

Breast health is such an important topic for us to talk about. We hear so much about treatment and recovery but so little about prevention. In addition to eating a diet full of organic fruits and vegetable, getting plenty of rest and exercising regularly, we can take further steps to ensure the health of our breasts. For example, acupuncture is a wonderful way to improve and maintain proper blood and oxygen flow to the breast. Many of you know that acupuncture can help relieve muscle spasm and chronic tension in the neck, shoulders and back but it can also decrease tension in important postural muscles which affect the breast and lymph tissues surrounding the breast. When muscle tension is eased, circulation is increased and stagnation is prevented. The lymph system is also affected, becoming less constricted and more able to remove and flush out dangerous toxins which can be stored in breast tissue. Acupuncture also plays a fundamental role in regulating the endocrine system. I commonly treat women to help regulate menstrual cycles, alleviate PMS and reduce menstrual pain. These symptoms are all indications of hormonal imbalance. With hormones balanced, breast tissue is healthier and the immune system is stronger. Studies have shown that most of us have low levels of cancer in our bodies but that our immune systems are able to process the defective cells and protect our bodies from disease. By strengthening our immune systems we are helping the body ward off disease and maintain health. This applies not only to breast health, but to whole body health.
For patients who want to understand their breast health in more depth, I recommend Breast Thermography. If you would like more information on Thermography I recommend calling Jackie Bell, a Natural Medicine Consultant and Holistic Breast Health Specialist.

Acupuncture is a fantastic means of dealing with morning sickness or constant nausea. It is drug free and extremely effective. As always with acupuncture, the practitioner must evaluate the overall condition of the patient and treat him or her based on the core diagnosis. However, nausea is commonly treated with the well know point, PC6. This point is located between two tendons on the inner side of the wrist, the flexor carpi radialis and the palmaris longus. Though I needle this point while patients are in the office, I often send women home with something that continually stimulates the point long after the treatment ends and get great results!
As always, there are things you can do at home to relieve morning sickness naturally. These are my favorites:
- Most importantly get plenty of rest and exercise
- Keep Hydrated – Nausea is one of the first signs of dehydration for both mother and fetus. Try to drink liquids that will provide electrolytes but don’t have added sugars. I like many of the new coconut water drinks and I sell a seaweed drink at my office that is fantastic (call or come in to place an order). Please, please stay away from Gatorade, it has WAY too much sugar and can actually upset the stomach and intensify nausea.
- Preggie Pops (http://www.threelollies.com) – One of my favorite products for morning sickness.
- Early morning snack – Before your feet even touch the ground in the morning, have a few crackers. Having food in the stomach helps to settle nausea.
- Graze on small meals and snacks throughout the day to keep blood sugar levels stable and ease nausea.
- Have a high protein snack before bed can help calm morning sickness.
- Drink ginger tea – I recommend shredding a tablespoon of raw ginger into a mug and pouring boiling water over it. Sip on several cups throughout the day. WWW.Natural-homeremedies.com recommends: Take 1/2 tsp ginger juice, 1 tsp fresh limejuice, 1 tsp mint juice and 1 tsp honey and mix well. Drink this mixture 3-4 times in a day.
- Adequate Vitamin B in the diet – Women taking pre-natal vitamins should be receiving sufficient amounts.
I want to take a moment to mention Hyperemensis gravidarum, severe morning sickness often resulting in constant nausea and vomiting. Thought relatively rare, this affects approximately 50,000 women in the United State every year and is a serious condition. Women who are suffering from Hyperemensis gravidarum should consult their doctors immediately. If you are suffering from severe morning sickness and are hoping to avoid medication, I recommend consulting both your OBGYN and an acupuncturist. Receiving regular acupuncture and following as many of the above recommendations, can make a huge difference in controlling nausea and the associated symptoms. Please call anytime if you have questions. I’m always available to help! (617) 512-3193

Acupuncture is a wonderful way of boosting the immune system and relieving chronic sinusitis but when combined with a few easy life style changes, it can change your life forever! Over the years, I have discovered a few things that allergies and sinus sufferers have in common. Most people who have chronic nasal and sinus congestion are allergic or have adverse reactions to dairy products. Simply taking the step of completely eliminating dairy from the diet, can greatly reduce your congestion. For years my friends have teased me when I talk about mucus producing foods, but if you are congested and it disrupts your sleep, challenges your breathing and causes pain, the last thing you want to do is eat mucus producing foods! Of course dairy products are the worst offenders, but sugar is a close second. Unfortunately, that also means any food that quickly turns to sugar such as white bread, muffins, bagels or any other simple carbohydrate. It’s important to note here, just cutting back on dairy doesn’t do the trick. To really make a difference, you must eliminate dairy completely from your diet. Try it out for three months and see if you see any changes. Either way you will learn crucial information for maintaining your health.
Now that you know eliminating dairy and cutting down on sugar and simple carbohydrates can help, it’s time to tell you about the Neti Pot. They can be found at your local health food store or online and usually cost around $15.00. They are fantastic and should be kept in every home! For those of you who are chronic sufferers of nasal congestion, sinusitis or allergies, I highly recommend regular use of the Neti Pot. During acute stages or for chronic sufferers, use twice a day. I also recommend “steaming” first. That may be a term my mother invented but it applies none the less. Fill the sink with steaming hot water and add a few table spoons of salt. Drape a towel over your head and lean over the sink, breathing in the steam. This loosens congestion and helps wash allergens and mucus from the nasal cavities. After “steaming” for a few minutes go ahead and use the Neti Pot.
Directions for the Neti Pot:
Be sure to use body temperature water mixed with salt at a 1 cup of water to 1 tsp. salt ratio. This makes the water isotonic (having the same salt ratios as our bodily tissues). If you do not use the proper salt ratios, this process can actually be painful and irritate the nasal passages.
Lean over the sink so that you are looking directly down at the drain, then turn your head to the side so that your left ear is facing toward the drain. Pour the water from the Neti Pot into your right nostril and breath through your mouth. When all of the water has drained, stand up and gently blow your nose. Then repeat on the other side. (Here is a brief training video. Pardon the commercial at the beginning, but I like this video the best. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hmRi4V4-ZUc)

I see so many women suffering with monthly menstrual cramps and PMS. For some PMS signs and cramping begin in the days prior to the start of menstruation but for others suffering begins the week of ovulation. This means than many are dealing with pain and PMS for almost half of each month! Luckily, there are steps you can take to dramatically reduce and even rid yourself completely of menstrual pain and PMS.
The most powerful way to affect your health and the state of your menstrual cycle is through your diet. The top three foods that cause painful periods and intensify PMS symptoms are sugar, alcohol and caffeine. If you can eliminate sugar, alcohol and caffeine from your diet for three months, I promise, you will notice a dramatic change in your cycles. Though this sounds simple, it is often very difficult for people to make such significant changes in their diet. But it is well worth it!
Most women deal with menstrual pain by taking over the counter pain medications like Advil and other NSAIDS (Non-steroidl anti-inflammtory drug). In small amounts, NSAIDS can be useful way to manage pain, but it is important to mention that high levels of NSAIDS can lead to damage to the stomach and intestines and can even cause ulcers. Other women are prescribed birth control as a means of managing pain and/or PMS. I am not necessarily against birth control and pain medications when necessary but I want women to be empowered and take their health into their own hands. Although some suffer from severe symptoms and truly do require the assistance of medications, most woman can radically change the way they feel just by eliminating sugar, alcohol and caffeine. Isn’t it worth the sacrifice?
